Minnesota residents who suffer from head injuries may experience concussions. Concussions are one of the most common results from head injury. They can range from mild to severe. The symptoms sometimes vary, too.

But concussions of all sorts can give sufferers plenty of problems. Anyone who suffers from a concussion should take care and seek medical attention. Otherwise, you may face more damage than you expect.

Physical symptoms of concussion

Mayo Clinic takes a look at concussive symptoms in head injury victims. Concussive symptoms are often divided into three categories. These are physical, emotional and mental symptoms.

Physical symptoms are the easiest to identify and notice. Someone may black out or remain unconscious for a period of time. In other cases, the victim cannot sleep. Sensory issues also occur. A person may suffer from tinnitus, or ringing in the ears. They may also have trouble with sensation. Taste and smell often end up disordered, too.

Emotional and mental symptoms of concussion

Emotional symptoms run a wide range. But many people experience increased aggression and agitation. The victim may also struggle to contain their impulses. This may worsen depending on the area of the brain that ends up injured.

Mental symptoms often revolve around memory loss and confusion. The victim often experiences a “brain fog” in which they cannot perceive the world well. They may end up confused about where they are, what they were doing and so on. They may ask the same question more than once. They often have targeted amnesia, too. It is not uncommon to forget the incident leading to the injury. Anyone suffering from these symptoms should seek medical care. Concussions left unchecked may cause permanent damage to the brain due to swelling.
